Words can hurt. They can do lots of damage. Words can heal. They can bring life & restoration. I don’t think that we are careful with our words, in general, as a society. The sad thing is that it takes more positive remarks to outweigh one negative remark. The Bible has a lot to say about our words….
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
I get sloppy in my communication & don’t measure my words. I don’t consider what they will do to the person receiving them sometimes. I don’t even consider that I allow other’s words to hurt those I love. I have this “bubble” mentality sometimes & deceive myself into thinking that “sticks & stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” That’s the craziest rhyme I’ve ever repeated or even believed!
If you go here & type in the word tongue, you’ll be surprised at how much there is on the subject!

Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. James 3:5-9
